Show Day Weigh-In Checklist for Exhibitors

What to prepare the week of fair so weight class and paperwork do not surprise you.

Definition: Show-day weigh-in is the official weight that determines class placement and often sale eligibility. The checklist starts a week out, not at the scale line.

One week out:

  • Confirm entry paperwork, animal ID/tag, and health papers.
  • Re-run fair projection with the latest ADG.
  • Print or export your record book if required.
  • Talk through final 24–48 hour water/feed strategy with your leader (species- and county-specific — not one-size-fits-all advice).

Worked example: Monday projection 258 lb, class target 265, show Saturday. Required ADG for 5 days ≈ 1.4 lb/day — know whether that is realistic before you invent last-minute tactics.

Use the fair weight projector. Prep paperwork with the record book checklist and growth interpretation in on track vs behind.

Next step: Export a ShowPen record book before you leave for the fairgrounds.
